WHO is the Bible about?

The Bible is about Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and their relationship with the people of this world, primarily the Israelites or Jews who are descendants of Noah’s son, Shem.

WHO is the Bible about? God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit

There is ONE God, but He has three “forms”, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, sometimes called the Godhead or Holy Trinity. (1John 5:7) The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all 100% God, but they have different roles and forms.

Although nothing earthly can compare to God or explain God, consider the following comparisons:

  • Water can be a liquid, solid or gas, but all three forms are H2O.  Jesus came to earth in human form, but He now has a glorified form like His Father.  They sit side by side on the throne in Heaven while the invisible Spirit of God lives in believers.

Names of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit

The words “God” and “Lord” are really titles rather than names. The names of God are:

  1. God the Father – Jehovah, Yahweh, YHVH, I AM (Exodus 3:14,Exodus 6:3)
  2. God the Son – Jesus, Yeshua (Matthew 1:21)
  3. God the Holy Spirit – God’s breath, Ruah

Note: There are no vowels in the Hebrew language.  Vowels were added for Latin & English pronunciation.  The original Hebrew for Yahweh or Jehovah is YHVH.

Characteristics of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit

Throughout the Bible, God is revealed as:

  1. Omnipotent which means all-powerful.
  2. Omniscient which means all-knowing.
  3. Omnipresent which means ever-present.

Most of all, God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is LOVE!

WHO is the Bible about? Jews, Gentiles and Christians

Semites, Israelites and Jews

After the flood, Noah’s 3 sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, repopulated the Earth (Gen 9:19, 10:32) . Jesus is a physical descendant of Noah’s son, Shem. Shem is where we get the term Semite or anti-Semitic. If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you cannot be anti-Semitic.

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are descendants of Shem. Jacob was renamed Israel after wrestling with God (Genesis 32:28). Jacob (aka Israel) had 12 sons who became the founding families of the nation of Israel. Therefore, the Israelites are descendants of Israel the person, and also a term used for people who are natives of the nation of Israel. Jesus is an Israelite.

The term Jew is derived from the name Judah, the fourth son of Jacob or Israel. Jesus is a descendant of Judah and is called the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Revelation 5:5). Jesus is also called “King of the Jews” (John 19:19). In fact, the inscription “INRI” often seen on the crucifix is the Latin abbreviation for “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews” which was posted on Jesus’ cross at the crucifixion. Jesus is Jewish.

Gentiles

The term Gentile is commonly used to refer to a non-Jew, but it was first used to describe the descendants of Noah’s son, Japheth (Genesis 10:2-5). Although the Gospel of Jesus was preached to the Jews first, the Gospel was also preached to the Gentiles (Acts 26:22-23), Jesus died for everyone and we are all one in Him.

Christians

The term Christian was first used to describe the Jewish disciples and followers of Jesus, the CHRIST. (Acts 11:26). Although Christian was initially a derogatory term, it has become the commonly accepted term for believers in Jesus, the Christ. The Jews and Gentiles are PHYSICAL descendants of Noah’s sons, but Christians are SPIRITUAL descendants of Jesus, the Christ. ANYONE can become a Christian by believing in Jesus, the Christ, and receiving His free gift of salvation.

A Christian is one who confesses with their mouth that Jesus is their Lord and Savior, and believes in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. A Christian is saved from the second death (aka Hell) and is spiritually born into eternal life through Jesus, the Christ. (Romans 10:8-9)

Christians are not perfect, but we believe in the perfect Jesus and accept His death on the cross as payment for our sins. So, even though we sin, God sees us as sinless because of Jesus. Christians are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus, the Christ, the perfect one who died for us. Salvation is a free gift available to everyone. It can’t be earned through obedience, church attendance, Bible reading, etc. but a relationship with Jesus will give you a desire for these things. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
